Featured JAH - 7/20/2024, Sept/Oct 2001

Hello and welcome to another edition of Featured JAH! You may have noticed that Featured JAH was on hiatus last week due to a little thing called Breyerfest. Can't believe it's already been a week! Anyway, this this week's issue is Sept/Oct 2001 - let's get going!

On the front cover, Cloud (the famous Pryor Mountain mustang) spars with another horse. On the back cover, Skullduggery makes his debut!

In the Editor's Column, Stephanie talks about upcoming projects, including the QVC appearances they used to do sometimes. I forgot about those! On page 2 is a news roundup "from the equine world."

On page 4-5 we have the first part of the first article about Cloud and the reveal of his Breyer model, beginning Breyer's multi-decade love affair with Cloud and his family.

On page 10-11 we have an article about the Pony Express to accompany the new Pony Express model on the Hobo mold.

On page 12 we have some letters to the editor, and on page 13 we have a review of the Seabiscuit book by Laura Hillenbrand, later to be made into a movie with several Breyer tie-in models. I usually skip these book reviews, but Seabiscuit is a great book! Highly recommend. I wish the author would write a few more books about other famous horses.

After skipping some 2001 releases, on page 16-17 we have a scrapbook of photos from Breyerfest 2001! Fitting, since Breyerfest 2024 was just a week ago.

On page 18-19 we have more Breyerfest photos and some quotes from attendees.

In this issue's centerfold is Masquerade - the first Connoisseur model I was drawn for! Huzzah! I was still in high school at the time and didn't have much money, so I stopped entering for them after Masquerade. He was the only Connoisseur model I had until my re-entry into the model horse hobby in 2010.

After skipping a judge's clinic and an article about Two Eyed Jack, on page 26-27 we have a Breyer scrapbook featuring some familiar faces!

After skipping Collector Corner, Horse Trader (still-shrinking in size) and Breyer jr., on page 38-39 is the rest of the Cloud article. The article is an excerpt from Ginger Kathrens's book Cloud: Wild Stallion of the Rockies. Spoiler alert: Cloud lived his life wild and free until his disappearance and presumed death in late 2015. RIP to a legend!

On page 40-41 we have this week's Vintage Point article, and that brings us to the end of this week's issue! Check back next week for Nov/Dec 2001. We're almost done with another year!
