The last few sneak peeks!

Good news, everyone! If you're somehow still on the fence about joining next year's Stablemates Club, Breyer put out a couple more sneak peeks today! (If you already rejoined, you won't have gotten these emails). Check out next year's optional release - it's actually two models!

Yes - those are the two new foal molds that made their debut with the new Mystery Foal Surprise and Suncatcher Stablemates sets this year. Cute! I'll definitely need them for my shelves!

There's also a sneak peek of the new mold for next year!

Looks promising so far! Kinda looks like a mini Ashquar, really. I bet this one would make a good companion for Darley!

There's also a new view of the first Premier Club release for next year, Fireheart:

Oh boy...this mold is really trying to grow on me. No, I must resist! I like his back end but not his front end! I don't have enough shelf space! I could presell him for a lot of money! I...whew. Okay, I think I'm over it.

He's really got an attitude, doesn't he? Rawr.

But anyway...happy New Year! Don't let the door hit you on the way out, 2020. Sheesh!

Wednesday, December 30, 2020

Woohoo!

Good news, everyone - the split run for next year's Stablemates Club has been revealed!

I was right - it's Atticus! So I definitely don't need more than one membership next year. He does look scrumptious in gloss, though...

Anyway, I hope everyone has a happy New Year! Let's hope 2021 is better than 2020 was...

ETA: The December Collector Club Newsletter is out! Check your email for more details, but check out this test silver filigree Duende!

Mmm, he's pretty...I think I still prefer Benasque's color, though.

There's a couple other fun articles in the newsletter, including one about the development of Benasque's family, and the last giveaway of the year is for an extra Christoff! Yay! Good luck to everyone that enters!

Oh boy!

Wow! After today's reveal, I'd be racing to join next year's SMC if I hadn't already! Check this guy out!

Say hello to the amazing Henrik! He's a beautiful glossy palomino on the Django mold! This guy is spectacular. I can't wait to add him to my collection! Okay, I'll stop gushing about him now. If you haven't signed up for the 2021 SMC yet, it's not too late - the deadline is 12/31 at 11:59pm.

Another Stablemates Club reveal!

Ooh, another reveal for the Stablemates Club - behold!

His name is Raider. Nothing I need, but he's definitely pretty! If you need a refresher, that's the G1
Seabiscuit mold. Well, the year is almost over, so we'll probably get reveals of the rest of the releases in the upcoming week. I can't wait to see the Django!

The year-end warehouse sale is happening now!

Hello, readers! Good news - because Breyer's warehouse doesn't have enough things to ship already, the year-end sale is happening now!

I don't see anything terribly special here, though- some American Dream models, leftover swag from Breyerfest, this year's unicorn Christmas ornament - but there are some good deals to be had if there's any regular run merch you haven't picked up yet. I think some of these have finally been retired, so this may be your last chance to grab them. Check out the sale here

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night...

Greetings, readers! I hope everyone had a good Christmas - I certainly did. Check out this year's Christmas morning surprise!

That's right - snowy clearware Icelandic Horses! Fun stuff! At first I wasn't that impressed with them, but on looking at the photos a little closer, they do have a little more detail than I thought - I like the blue snowflakes on the otherwise clear one, plus they look like they're covered in tiny snowflakes or water droplets.

As per usual for the last few years, there's also a chance you'll receive a glossy black "Coal" variant, though I wish they'd given it a different name like they did with Licorice last year. Onyx probably would have worked, or Obsidian or something. Anyhoo, I did manage to order three of these since I collect the Icelandic, so I'm excited to see what they look like in person! (I wish they'd included a photo of the black one...also, is the black one even the same mold as the rest of them? The wording makes it seem like it may be a totally different mold). Hopefully I get lucky and don't get any duplicate colors - I hope they get here soon! Merry Christmas, everyone!

Gird your loins...(and wallets!)

Oh, boy...there's going to be another Christmas Day surprise this year! Collector Club members got (or should have gotten) an email in their inboxes...

Tomorrow at 11am EST, we'll find out what it is! I'm at work all night tonight, so I guess I get to sleep for maybe 3 hours before the big event! Hopefully I remember to set an alarm. Anyway, I hope it's something pretty! Although part of me hopes it's something I don't want so I can go back to bed for a few more hours...

Just a small update

So an email went out from Breyer yesterday about next year's Premier Club. The subject line said it contained a new hint about the club! Turns out there's a mare and foal set in next year's club! Huzzah! So that means it was sculpted by either Maggie Bennett or Morgen Kilbourn. I like mare and foal sets, but I don't generally like Morgen's style (Bristol is the exception), so I hope Maggie sculpted them. Nothing against Morgen or anything.

Also, I guess next year's Kid's Club horses are being sent out after all! I saw a picture of one on Facebook. Well, I definitely need to get my hands on one eventually!

Looks like I only need one Stablemates Club membership!

Exciting news, readers - we now know the gambler's choice model for next year's Stablemates Club - the Croi! Behold!

Look at those beauties! I don't collect the mold, but those colors are all beautiful, especially the blue one.

Fortunately, this means I don't need three SMC accounts next year! Huzzah! I'm super-relieved that the Django isn't the gambler's choice. Woohoo! Well, I guess I'm free to rejoin the club now!

Featured Model - 12/19/20, North Star

Hello and welcome to another edition of Featured Model, the weekly blog event where I pick a model I don't own but would like to, give some stats on it and provide commentary about it. This week's model is...North Star!

This handsome guy was the Saturday Raffle at Breyerfest 2019. He was item #711357, a run of 26 on the Duende mold sculpted by Mindy Berg.

Like most of the raffle models from the last few years, I wanted this guy really badly, but my luck wasn't to be that year. Someday my star will come and I'll win a raffle model...well, maybe. Anyways, it definitely stung not to get to take one of these guys home, but I can't really complain too much - at least I got to go, right? Anyway, Duende is particularly stately in this color, isn't he? The nearly-white mane complements his dark body color really well. And the gloss brings it all together!

Hmm, now that I think about it, the new Holiday Horse for next year ought to be a pretty similar color once you get all the trappings off. I might have to nickname mine, "Budget North Star"! Heh heh heh. It looks like the Holiday Horse has a dark mane, though, so he's not TOO similar.

Will we see Duende pop up anywhere else next year? Breyer does like to get the most out of a mold in production, so I'd say it's somewhat likely. Maybe as a web special? I don't anticipate seeing him at Breyerfest, but maybe he'd be a prize model or something. He's pretty much already done everything else in his short existence so far, so we'll have to wait and see.

Winter Sweepstakes and Tobias!

Exciting news, readers! Better late than never, right? Well, anyway...Breyer is having a little sweepstakes to celebrate the start of winter! They're giving away some Festive Filigree leftovers to 10 lucky winners.

Only one model per winner (I think). Get your entries in here! We only have to enter once, which is nice. I still haven't managed to trade my red SCO for the silver Brishen, so I'm entering in hopes I win one. Good luck to everyone who enters!

Our other piece of exciting news is the reveal of Tobias, the 2021 Stablemates Club release that was teased a few days ago:

That color certainly is striking on him! He looks glossy, but I don't think he really is. Maybe he'll be the matte/glossy release? Which reminds me...they advertised a matte/glossy release for this year, but I don't think we got one, did we? That's kinda odd - maybe they forgot about it. Oh well.

Entries for the 2021 SMC (and the Premier Club) end on 12/31, so don't forget to join. I'm holding out on signing up because I want to see even more, darn it! I want to know who the gambler's choice is!

Check back later for more exciting Breyer news!

The 2021 New Releases are out!

Exciting news, readers - the 2021 line has been announced! The full line can be found here, but I'll show the ones I'm most excited about here!

Encore and Tor

Wow, I love that color on Forever Saige! And the black Gilen is so dashing. Must have!

Spordur fra Bergi (try saying that one five times fast)

Yay! Another new Icelandic! Gotta add him to the herd!

Obsidian!

I love that he's a unicorn, and I'll buy him eventually,  but I hope there's some kind of interference or shimmer in his coat to better differentiate him from Dag Dia.

Theo!

Mmmm, a new Georg. Gotta have him too! Kinda wondering what they mean by "foil packaging," though.

'90's Throwback!

This one is...interesting. I kinda think it should have even more colors on it to be a true throwback to the '90s, but I'll buy one nonetheless. So glad Mason is finally getting some love! It's like they forgot about him.

The Sea Unicorn!

I've already forgotten this one's name, but it's a unicorn Liam - we don't need much more than that. He's a lot greener in the photo of him in the box - I'll definitely have to pick him up at some point.

A new American Dream!

And in the coveted, rare black pinto - yes please!

A bay Fairfax!

Also yes please!

New single-assortment Stablemate Unicorns!

That G2 Warmblood looks like a mini Bellatrix! Yay!

There are more unicorn blind bags, but the less said about those, the better. Bleh.

The 2021 Holiday Horse - Arctic Grandeur!

I was a little bewildered when I first saw this one, because that costume completely overshadows him - I thought it was the Shetland at first. Can't wait to see what he looks like underneath!

Next year's unicorn ornament:

Wow, mini Emma! And is that the Benasque colorway? She'll be popular!

And lastly, here's this year's flagship model!

YES! A new Moody ASB! Sign me up!

Well, that's all I've seen so far. It definitely looks like 2021 is going to be a good, if expensive, year!

Deluxe Kid's Club 2021!

Greetings, readers! I had a lovely email in my inbox this morning concerning next year's Deluxe Kid's Club - check this out!

Next year's model for the club is a handsome (buckskin?) overo Sir Buckingham/Stock Horse Gelding! Darn it, that means I have to join this club for next year...good thing I have kids.

By the by, I've seen some reports of people not getting this model when joining the Deluxe Kid's Club right now - I could be wrong, but that's probably because this is the model for 2021, not 2020. Just throwing that out there. The Kid's Club can be joined at any time, as far as I know.

That's all I've got for today! Hopefully we get the 2021 line reveal soon - after the busy last few week we've had, I'm jonesing for more news!

Featured Model - 12/12/2020, Glossy Chalky White Marwari

Hello and welcome to another edition of Featured Model, the weekly blog event where I pick a model I don't own but would like to, give some stats on it and provide commentary about it. This week's model is...the glossy chalky white Marwari from the Breyerfest 2017 silent auction!

This handsome model was a OOAK on the Marwari mold sculpted by Brigitte Eberl. As mentioned above, he was part of the Breyerfest 2017 silent auction and came with a costume made by Didi Hornberger (I think).

Sigh...there's just something about a white horse, isn't there? Plus he's glossy to boot! Another model to die for. The Marwari just looks so good in white! He looks a tad bit pearly, too - that makes his paint job a little more interesting than just plain white.

As for the Marwari, I feel like he's a slightly neglected mold - he's had a number of auction appearances, but only one regular run and a small handful of special runs. Give us a new Marwari! I suppose the slightly-older, slightly-less-popular molds like him tend to slip under the radar when the new hotness comes out. Maybe next year he'll get a web special or something - though I don't think the Khalid release was terribly popular, so that doesn't bode well for new releases in the future. I can still hope, though!

Collector Appreciation Roundup!

Good news, everyone! Well, everyone that's a Collector Club member, I guess. Anyway, there's a new post about the Collector Appreciation glossies for this year! Check your Collector Club home page to read it.

The long and short of it is this: the total number of glossies produced was 1,860, with approx. 200-250 of each individual model. Here's the glossy Winx!

While I was able to trade for a glossy EZ to Spot, I still need to get ahold of a Winx and the glossy Dominante:

Hopefully I can find those at some point. It's a bit funny that the CCA event is all wrapped up at this point, when it's usually just getting started at this time of the year. I guess that's probably for the best, with how clogged up the warehouse is right now.

Speaking of glossies, there was an update on the Breyerfest blog yesterday stating that the Breyerfest glossy models will start shipping at the end of the month. Woohoo! I can't wait to see my glossy Cheesecake and Topgun!

Edited to add: Also, Breyer sent out an email begging reminding us to join the 2021 Stablemates Club, and there's a sneak peek of part of one of the releases!

I'm not signing up just yet, though - they can do better than that. I want reveals of all the new releases! Grr. Hurry up already!

Featured Model - 12/5/2020, Yankee Doodle Dandy

Hello and welcome to another edition of Featured Model, the weekly blog event where I pick a model I don't own but would like to, give some stats on it and provide commentary about it. This week's model is...Yankee Doodle Dandy!

This handsome guy was a contest prize for Breyerfest 2007, though IDYB doesn't list which contest. I want to say hat contest? But I'm not sure. Anyway, only 30 of these guys were produced. He's item #711437 on the Shire B mold sculpted by Kathleen Moody.

I decided to feature this model because auction or test models, and contest prizes, are rather few and far between on Classics molds these days, though a number of tests were sold at the live auction in the early years of Breyerfest. Other than the yearly glossy Classics model offered at live shows (usually a glossy version of the previous year's Classics Horse of the Year), we don't really see a lot of rare models done on Classics, probably because the Classics line is far less popular than the Traditionals.

As for Yankee Doodle Dandy, I really like him, though I think his ribbons could have done with a little more detail since his run was so small. I'm not sure if you'd call his color splash or more of an extended sabino - either way, I like him. The white area makes a nice contrast with his shaded bay areas, and the blue is a nice complement. Another model I'd love to have in my collection, if one ever comes up for sale! Hopefully he'd be less expensive, too.

The Shire B is one of those molds that doesn't get used very often - he's like the rare variant of the Shire A. He's been a regular run exactly twice, and has been used as a website special run twice - that's it for him outside of rare releases. Unfortunately, this makes me think we probably won't see another release on him for quite a while, but I think we're due for new Classics models next year, so you never know. I certainly wouldn't complain if he got another new release! Callahan needs some new friends!

Cassidy and Duke are now available!

Exciting news for Stablemates Club members - the last offerings in the club, Cassidy and Duke, are now available! Cassidy is the new stock horse sculpt  by Maggie Bennett:

I want to like her, but stock horses generally aren't my thing, and her legs look weird to boot. Maybe she'll look better in person? I hope so. I'm in the process of selling all of mine, though, so I probably won't get to see one for a while.

Anyway, this year's optional SMC release, Duke, is also now available!

The Clydesdale Stallion is also not really my thing, so I won't be getting one of these either. Good thing they're optional! I wonder if they're going to do an optional release next year? I hope they reveal some more stuff about the club before signups close. I haven't signed up on any of my accounts yet - I like to hold off as late as possible to prod them to show us more of what we're going to get...since it's our money we're spending, here...

But anyway. The order deadline for these is 12/16, so we've got plenty of time to order!

Black Beauty and La Molina & Masella!

Greetings, readers! Exciting news today - my Black Beauty and La Molina & Masella set are here! I'll start with Black Beauty:

Isn't he a beauty? I don't have the QVC Black Beauty to compare him to, but the reports I've seen on the Internets indicate that the new release is more of a grayish color than the original.

I'm still wondering why they reused Silver for this release when True North is right there. I suppose they figured they had to use Silver again since the horse is apparently a mustang in the new movie.

Quality-wise, he's pretty nice - I didn't see any flaws on him. Another worthy addition to the collection!

Next, let's take a look at the mare and foal set whose names I'm tired of typing!

The foal isn't as dark in real life as he is in the photo. Sadly, I don't have a Benasque to compare him to, but they haven't been a complete match in the photos I've seen online. I'm definitely glad to have these two, though!

I'd forgotten how much I missed Breyer's silver filigrees - we used to get them every year, but the last one we had was 2018's silver filigree variant of Callahan. And she looks good with my other silver filigrees!

With regards to their quality...well, I didn't see anything wrong with the mare, but the foal apparently was splattered with white paint after he was glossed. I was able to scrape most of it off, but...how did it get there? When would he have been anywhere near white paint after he was pretty much done being painted? Weird.

But anyways, I'm super stoked that I was drawn for these! Now if I can just find Benasque for a good price...

Da Bears

So it is the Bears after all! Say hello to Ursa Major and Ursa Minor!

Nothing I need, but the color certainly is striking! I'll overlook their lack of panda-shape, since they're decorators anyway. Though I wouldn't mind seeing a pair of these in person just to see what the color is really like.

As usual, they're a web special, production run of 350, etc. Good luck to people entering for them! My wallet is sighing in relief. The entry deadline is Wednesday night, so don't forget to get your entries in!
