Hello and welcome to another edition of Featured Model, the weekly blog event where I pick a model I don't own but would like to, give some stats on it and provide commentary about it. This week's model is...Poseidon!
This model was item #712096 and was a run of 230 on the Esprit mold sculpted by Kathleen Moody. He was second in the Greek Gods web special series from 2013.
I badly wanted to be drawn for this web special, but had pretty bad luck with the Greek Gods that year - Dionysus was the only one I was drawn for and he seems to be the least popular of the four. Still have him, though. Anyway, basecoated blue roan pinto looks amazing on Esprit, especially with that blue eye. Still kicking myself for passing one up at Breyerfest because $400 was too rich for my blood - they're going for two or three times that nowadays. But anyway...
Esprit has been a pretty popular model over the years, and he's had a lot of low-run-number releases - though they seemed to have backed off that in recent years. Most of his more recent releases have been a lot easier to acquire over the years, so let's hope that continues in the future. Hard to say where we'll see him next - we're getting the glossy Apollo models in now, but he could really show up anywhere (except maybe at Breyerfest). He hasn't been a web special since Poseidon, so he could easily get another one of those, but he's already been a Holiday Horse, the patriotic mid-year release and wouldn't really fit in that well at TSC (at least, in my opinion). Maybe he'll be part of this collector event Breyer is planning for this year? Gulp, I hope not. I guess we'll find out soon enough - he's too popular to sit unused for long!
