More last-minute reveals!

Well, Breyer is really ramping up their efforts to get people to join the clubs last-minute - today they posted an extra, bonus Stablemate for next year's Stablemate Club! Check him out!

That's right...a Stablemate version of the Clydesdale Stallion! Cute! Nothing I need, but they're definitely going crazy with the shrinking technology! Who will be next? I might not be able to say no to a tiny Adios...

But anyway. The Stablemate Clyde Stallion looks like he's had his bobs toned down, which is probably a good thing. They'd probably look too blobby or something if they stayed the same. It's interesting to see what gets changed and what stays the same when things get shrunk. Brishen's Stablemate counterpart has some differences in the mane, too.

Also, a production photo of an Altynai has been posted!

He looks amazing against that white background. Is Breyer finally stepping up their promotional photo game? I hope so! Definitely glad I'm in the club for this guy...now if we could only get a few more hints about the other sculpts! And for that matter, some kind of photo of the new Stablemates Club mold for next year...because this will be the first year we didn't get at least an outline of it ahead of time. Remember those halcyon days of yesteryear when they showed us Django and Mirado up front? Sigh...

Rumors

So there's a teaser photo of one of next year's Premier Club releases floating around; that's definitely a spotty butt!

I hope it's a really nice blanket or extended blanket Appaloosa! Will it be the Fraley sculpt? There's speculation online that hers might be a mule, which I'm apprehensive about. I'm not really into either of the Breyer mules, so that doesn't bode well for any potential mule. I guess I have plenty of time to think about it, anyway.

There's also a rumor going around that one of the guest horses (and store special models) at next year's Breyerfest will be WGC Marc of Charm, who (according to a Blabber) served as a model for the Hamilton sculpt - so this theoretical store special would be on Hamilton, natch. Here's a photo of the real horse:

Marc Of Charm

Yeah, that's a pretty close match to Hamilton. Can't wait to get his model! I'm sure it'll be stunning.

Editing to add: I forgot to mention Breyer posted a blurb on Instagram about the new mold for the 2020 Stablemates club. It's a stock horse sculpted by Maggie Bennett! The post originally said the paint job was designed by Karen Zorn, but that's since been removed, so who knows what's going on there. Anyway, exciting! Now if we could only see a photo of it...

Featured Model - 12/28/2019, Palomino Amber

Hello and welcome to another edition of Featured Model, the weekly blog event where I pick a model from my collection, give some stats on it and provide commentary about it. While I was trying to decide which model to feature this week, I discovered I'd inadvertently featured Leah's Fancy Breyer twice over the years...how embarrassing...but anyway, this week's model is the palomino Amber!

This model was part of a set (naturally) with a matching Ashley. They were released in 2004 as a regular run. She's item #1256 and was released on the Amber mold sculpted by Kathleen Moody.

Amber may have been a simple palomino paint job, but I do like the darker shading on her knees - it gives her some depth and keeps her from being a flat palomino color. The shading gives her a hint of dunalino, somewhat similar to Cheveyo and others. I like her!

We haven't seen much from Amber and Ashley lately - I mention both of them because one is not usually seen without the other. Where will we see them next? I'm sure they'll get another RR release eventually, since Breyer seems to like to reissue them in a set by themselves every few years. Maybe once the current Best of British foals get retired? We'll have to wait and see. Wouldn't it be nice if they were used for a special run, though? Maybe we'll get one or both of them in a holiday mare and foal set next year. Here's hoping!

Money, Money, Money

So a surprise special run popped up on the Breyer website today:

Breyer's Ambrose Model

He's a run of 350, painted at the New Jersey factory rather than China. His price? A whopping $295 each! Holy crap...

I was asleep when he went live, and still asleep when he sold out, so I missed out on this one, sadly. But with his piece count, I'm hopeful that I'll be able to get one eventually. I mean...almost $300? For a run of 350? Seems a bit overpriced. Sure, they were painted in NJ, but so are the Breyerfest volunteer models, half the web specials and most if not all the special event models. And being painted in NJ doesn't guarantee you won't get chicken wire dapples, you know?

Well, anyway, he definitely is pretty, and I'd like to get one eventually. Geronimo isn't the most popular mold, so I'm hoping the prices go down sooner rather than later. And I hope this doesn't mean we're going to get more of this in the future...my wallet is pretty much tapped out right now!

Sigh...

The gambler's choice model for the 2020 Stablemates Club has finally been revealed...and it's the Alborozo, named Valerio. Here's the first color:

Looks a lot like Allegro, honestly. I think I like him the best. Here's another:

Looks like rose gray is the new hot color, after black and buckskin. I think I'd like him better if he matched the rose gray Hero's Welcome or the new Dundee for 2020, but he's still nice!

This one reminds me of Areia or Arya, although their color was a little lighter. I wonder if his mane and tail will be pearly, or if it's just shiny from the gloss?

I'm oddly ambivalent about this one - maybe I'll like it better if I see it in person? I hope so.

Well, looks like I'll need to activate all three of our memberships next year. Anyone want to buy my extras? Not of the Alborozos, natch, but everything else...

It's the end-of-year clearance sale!

Good news, everyone! Breyer's end-of-year clearance sale is now active on the website - too late to be used for any collector club appreciation purchases, of course.

2019 Year-End Clearance Sale

There are (or were) some fun things in the sale - Eldora and Sol (sold out)! Emerson! Alba! And Celeste - though I don't think her price is any lower than her original price, and Emerson's is definitely higher. But I suppose that's how "sales" go these days - hike the price and just say it's on sale and people will eat it up, right?

There's nothing I need here, but Minstrel is discounted an impressive $15 off, as is the Heroes of the West set. There's also some Breyerfest swag - no Breyerfest models, though. It's a decent sale, and I've heard rumblings that the Collector Club discount works on some of it (CLUBPLUS19). So, if you're somehow still needing anything, buy away!

(I really feel like a Breyer shill making these kinds of posts, but I don't work for Breyer, I swear!)

FINALLY!

Well, I hope we've all been good boys and girls, because there are plenty of this year's Christmas surprise to go around!

That's right - we finally get candy cane zebras! Took them long enough. And there's an added treat - they're doing the Coal thing again, but with the Zebra this time! There are 500 of each regular color, and only 12 black Coals! I have to say, the Zebra looks pretty cool in glossy black:

Naturally, the blue one is my favorite, followed by the green, red, and gold (why gold? When has anyone ever seen a gold candy cane? Well, I guess butterscotch comes pretty close), and I ordered 3 of them, so I'll probably get three gold ones. I could probably find a fourth if I really wanted to, but the price point on these is, well, a bit higher than I'd have wanted ($95 would have been a much better price, considering the Zebra's small size and the number of each color), so I figure I'll be able to find whatever color I don't get without much trouble later on. And considering this special run has been on the website for almost 10 hours without selling out yet, I might even be able to get the last one on sale later on!

I do think it's really great they finally used the Zebra in this color pattern, though! And it makes me wonder if the Zebra is going to be used for something else later on? I hope so!

Merry Christmas, everyone! May we all enjoy our shiny candy zebras!

Another Christmas surprise is afoot!

Behold, Collector Club members!

Breyer has another Christmas Day surprise planned! What could it possibly be? The email says to check the website tomorrow for a "sweet treat." Could this be the year we finally get candy cane zebras! Oh, the humanity! Here's a Fruit Stripe zebra to whet your appetite:

Oh, I wish I knew who owns this model! But anyways...

I'm really, really hoping for candy cane zebras! If Breyer can pull it off, it would be brilliant! They could do red/white, green/white and red/green/white...that would be so cool! Maybe with a rare blue/white variant? Oh, I hope so! I'll definitely be checking the website tomorrow morning!

Featured Model - 12/21/2019, Puttin' on the Ritz

Hello and welcome to yet another edition of Featured Model, the weekly blog event where I pick a model from my collection, give some stats on it and provide commentary about it! This week's model is...Puttin' on the Ritz!

This handsome guy was produced for the Velvet Rope Event back in 2008. He's item #712006 and was a run of 100 on the popular Othello mold sculpted by Kathleen Moody.

Puttin' on the Ritz is one of those models I thought I'd never own - the combination of a popular mold and his rarity (he's in the top 5 rarest editions, not counting auction models, that this mold has ever had) made it seem like he would be forever out of my reach - until I was able to negotiate a partial trade for my Mother Lode Lady Phase! He's one of my favorite Othello models, despite the unfortunate green tinge he (and many others) ended up with. I wish I could have gone to the Velvet Rope Event, but having this guy in my collection definitely helps make up for missing it!

As for Othello himself, his mold turned 20 years old this year! Well, the original porcelain did - he wasn't issued in plastic until 2007, so I guess the plastic mold still has a few years to go before it hits the big 2-0. Where will we see him next? Possibly at Breyerfest 2020? Hopefully not as a prize model if so. His last Breyerfest appearance was as the 2018 volunteer model, so I guess anything is possible. I wouldn't say no to seeing him in the special run line, though if any draft gets used, it'll probably be Georg. So maybe Othello will get a rest for a while! But I hope it's not for too long - I think it's safe to say he's my favorite mold.

What was that about my wallet?

Greetings, everyone! There have been so many exciting reveals lately, I can barely keep up with them all...but I'll start with today's biggest news - the Seattle Soiree!

It's the latest Collector Event, in the same vein as the Scottsdale Stampede, Chasing the Chesapeake, Sweet Home Chicago, and so on. But this time it's in Seattle! According to the writeup, we'll see Misty Hollow Farms and the Pegasus Training & Rehabilitation Center! Yay, woo, etc. It's happening May 15-17, 2020 - ooh! I don't have to work that weekend! I can't wait to buy tickets!

Oh, wait. The tickets are random draw again...sigh. Well, hopefully my husband or I can get drawn to go - I'd love to spend a weekend in Seattle! No word on what the special runs will be (of course), but the entry period starts Jan. 6, so hopefully they at least tell us the event model then.

Next, let's take a look at Florian, the G2 Warmblood in next year's Stablemates Club:

Ooh, I love him! He's like a mini glossy Enzo. He definitely needs to join my herd.

The naysayers out there are now saying this means the Alborozo is the gambler's choice, but I'm holding on to hope that they've pulled another Highland Pony from last year and the gambler is something they've already shown us...please? Pretty please? I don't want to have to chase down four new Alborozos! Sigh.

And lastly, here's the reveal of the glossies for the second round of Collector Club Appreciation! In the interest of saving space, I'm only going to post the glossy LV Integrity here, because WOW!

That...is...AMAZING! She's definitely at the top of my list, and I hope I get her when they get shipped out. I'd settle for a glossy Khalid, too - whichever one I don't get, I'll have to track down at some point. The other two glossies are King and Kentucky - no thanks. Hopefully I'll be able to trade if I get either of them. But ugh, why do we have to wait until May?

Oh well. Good things come to those who wait, right?

Thursday, December 19, 2019

My wallet just breathed a huge sigh of relief!

More exciting reveals today, everyone - I'll just keep the goodness coming! Let's start with the 2020 Holiday Horse!

Shannondell, eh? The outfit is interesting, but I've never been a fan of mealy bays. I'm sure he's pretty under all that greenery, though! Next, more holiday items:

I'm not sure who decided the not-terribly-popular Rising Sun resin should be converted into a Stablemate, but it saves me money, so I guess I'm okay with it. I like that 70th anniversary ornament! None of the rest of it catches my eye though. Hmm, I'm sensing a pattern!

The Mini Whinny advent calendar is a super-cute idea, but again - nothing I need. Maybe for my kids? I'll have to think about it.

Next, say hello to the 2020 flagship model!

Lionel certainly is a handsome one, especially in palomino Appaloosa, but I'll pass. Looks like 2020 might be a fairly light year for me!

Now these have me excited. The Stablemate mystery foal sets return, now with unicorns?! Sign me up! I'll need all of those. That Warmblood Mare sure is a bright shade of pink, though. She looks like sherbet or something. Am I really surprised that there's yet another unicorn Alborozo and Magnolia? No. At least they won't be hard to get ahold of.

Now, these are interesting. Are they different combinations of the various horses, or are they in certain pairs, as the photo shows? I see they're randomly shipped, which is another way to say "blind bag garbage," so it could be hard to get them all...but I need almost all of them, so if I order four of them, I have a decent chance of getting all the ones I want...right? I'm glad to see a realistic color on the Warmblood Mare and the Walking Thoroughbred. Breyer is certainly getting plenty of use out of their new Stablemate molds, huh?

These are the last, for now. Are those Mini Whinny versions of Rising Sun, Firebird and the porcelain Cleveland Bay? Say it ain't so! None of those are molds I'm into, so I can resist these...for now. I guess Breyer figured out a way to sell just about anything - slap a horn on it and paint it purple and you're good!

Chroma, and the 2020 lineup!

Lots more exciting reveals today - including the 2020 regular run lineup! But first, take a look at Chroma, one of next year's Stablemates Club releases:

This one really makes me wish I liked the mold, because...sheesh. That's everything I want in a model horse, right there. Too bad it's the wrong mold!

In other news, the 2020 lineup has been revealed! Find them all here. But here are some highlights:

A new Stablemate assortment! I assume this is the replacement for the shadowbox set:

I'll only need to sell two of those! Excellent.

Also, here's an amazing decorator Malik:

I don't know what that's supposed to be, but I want it.

Here's a regular run Carina and Selene set, like we've been asking for:

Here's Fairfax, the Classics Horse of the Year:

He's supposed to be a Morgan, but I still think he looks like a Duende mini-me. I'm not sure if I want him or not...maybe when I see him in person?

Also, the 70th Anniversary Assortment has been revealed...to be another %*$#& blind bag assortment...

I'm guessing the quantities on these are more limited than a regular run. But how limited? I'm sure they'll sell out, since being allowed to pick the ones we want would just be way too easy. I'm not going to try to hide the fact that I'm angry about this. I'm tired of randomly shipped stuff. But it won't do any good to try to boycott the product, because we all know the flippers will buy them all anyway and then resell them for double (or more) the price. So I guess I'll be ordering four or five of these and hoping I get the ones I want, as usual. Grrrrr.

There are also some new unicorn Stablemates, but they aren't listed on the new arrivals page, so I'm guessing they're another series of unicorn blind bags? I guess we'll find out more about those later.

So, lots of exciting stuff for next year! Hopefully we get some more information about them soon!

My Collector Club Appreciation box is here!

Excellent news - my Collector Club Appreciation box showed up today! It wasn't scheduled to be here until tomorrow, but I guess UPS had other plans. Check out my loot!

That's right - I got glossy Seamus. Well, it could have been worse, I guess - I could have gotten glossy Enzo instead. I may already have a trade lined up for glossy Thunder, so hopefully that works out. In the meantime, here's a closer photo of Seamus:

I haven't gotten any other photos of Majesty yet, but he's definitely majestic! He's Stablemate-size, or maybe a little bigger, but I don't think he's molded from ABS - he's too heavy for that. Resin, maybe? He's nice all the same. But I wish Breyer would seal the glittery models better - he sheds glitter everywhere.

That's all I've got for now - but I'm hoping we get the big 2020 reveal later today! We've been waiting way too long!

Featured Model - 12/14/2019, Sapphire

Hello and welcome to another edition of Featured Model, the weekly blog event where I pick a model from my collection, give some stats on it and provide commentary about it! This week's model is...Sapphire!

This model was one of the three possible colors for Breyer's 2017 Christmas Day release. He's item #712233 and was a run of 350 on the Bouncer mold sculpted by Kathleen Moody.

I really like the shade of blue Breyer used for this model! It looks amazing with his gloss. I'm less enthralled with his ribbon decorations, though. The bells kind of look like the scratch-off part of a scratch art piece, or a lottery ticket or something. If only I could win a million dollars by scratching them off...

Well, anyway. Bouncer is a cutie and I have most of his releases - it's disappointing that he doesn't get used more, but sometimes that's just how it goes. He's never been a web special, presumably because collectors wouldn't want to pay full price for such a small model; the same probably applies to the Breyerfest special run line, though I personally wouldn't mind seeing him there. Maybe we'll get him next year for Celtic Fling? I hope so. He's definitely due for another release!

2020 sneak peek and more Collector Club Appreciation glossies!

First off, there's a new sneak peek in the December Collector Club newsletter:

Looks like a Croi tail! I wonder what she'll be? Lots of guesses of ponies, but she's being described as a horse, so it's anyone's guess what she is. Hopefully we don't have to wait too long to find out!

In other news, the Collector Club Appreciation consolation prize was announced: they're taking orders until 12/16 (buy $125 worth of stuff, get a free glossy), and anyone who gets an order in and uses the code in that time frame gets a glossy model from a whole new set of glossies! The three announced glossies are Khalid, King and LV Integrity. Of course, with Breyer being Breyer, those aren't the only glossies - but they're not telling us what they are just yet. I'm wondering if it's because they're going to gloss some of the new 2020 releases? That might be interesting.

Unfortunately, these new glossies won't ship until May 2020 for some reason (not sure why we have to wait 6 months for them when it can't be that hard to pull some of what they already have out of the warehouse and gloss those) but it is what it is. Maybe they'll ship earlier than that? I hope so. I did put in another order today (the two throw blankets I didn't have plus a Catch Me got me over the line pretty easily), so I'll be one of the people waiting for another glossy. Hopefully I get one I want - I have a feeling people will have a hard time getting rid of the glossy King, but I could be wrong.

My Corbins are here!

Good news, everyone! My Corbins arrived yesterday! Observe!

Sorry for the crappy photos.

They're definitely pretty, but the mold just isn't really my thing. He'd make a good mule with that head, though. Hopefully I can get them sold without too much trouble.

Quality-wise they look pretty good - the one in the bottom photo is better than the top one, though. The top guy has a rub in the paint on his face, under the gloss, but otherwise he looks fine.

In other news, it looks like all the complaints about the Collector Club Appreciation event had an effect on Breyer, because they're doing something "special" today for the people that missed out on Wednesday. I'm guessing they glossed up more of the glossy regular runs for the promotion? Anything else would just piss off the fanbase more, so...it'll probably turn out they glossed some Empres models or something. I guess we'll find out later today!

Wednesday, December 11, 2019

Whew! That was fast.

The Collector Appreciation sale went up - and then it sold out in under 30 minutes! That has to be close to a record, right? Turns out the glossy possibilities this year are Seamus, Latigo Dun It, Thunder, Enzo and Verdades. Fortunately for me, the glossy Thunder is the only one I want:

And, luckily for me, I was able to slip an order in before they sold out! Although, if I'm allowed to be a little whiny, I wish they'd have glossed Empres if they were going to gloss an Ashquar. Thunder barely looks glossy in the photo, which makes me wonder if we're going to have another Hero's Welcome situation where it's hard to even tell if some of the models are glossy.

Anyway, I hope I get Thunder! I'm sure he'll look better in person. Failing that, I hope I'm able to trade for a Thunder! The glossy Latigo Dun It is pretty stunning, though - he'll make a great addition to someone's collection.

So what did I buy? I had yet to get a Thunder, the unicorn Spanish Barb, Voyeur, or American Dream, so I loaded up my cart with those, plus a Stablemate blind bag to get me over the $125 minimum. Hey, with a little bit more luck I'll get a silver Alborozo! That would be the best.

The Collector Club Appreciation Sale returns!

Good news, everyone! The yearly Collector Club Appreciation sale will return tomorrow!

As a reminder, the Collector Club Appreciation sale works like this: purchase $125 of qualifying products (generally only regular run items count toward the promotion) and you'll receive a randomly selected glossy model for free. The above photo is one of the possible glossy models for this year; I'm thinking it's probably Enzo, this year's new Marchador? I won't need him, if so. I already have my cart loaded in preparation, so it's just a matter of waiting until 2pm Eastern tomorrow (1pm, in my time zone) to check out and add the appropriate code to my order (CCTHANKS19). I'll be at work when the promotion starts tomorrow, but hopefully I can get away long enough to get my order in before it sells out!

As for the other four possibilities, I have no idea what they might be...except that a glossy Bisbee popped up on Facebook a few weeks ago, so I'm guessing she'll be one of the possibilities. Honestly, I kinda hope I get another situation like last year, when I didn't want any of the glossies, so I was able to sell mine for a decent profit. I guess we'll see tomorrow! I mean, hopefully...as long as they tell us what the glossies are ahead of time...right?

Also, I'm glad to see the required dollar amount stayed at $125 this year. It had gone up the last few years, so it's nice to see it stay the same this year. Good luck to all the shoppers out there!

Featured Model - 12/7/2019, Sarge

Hello and welcome to another edition of Featured Model, the weekly blog event where I pick a model from my collection, give some stats on it and provide commentary about it. In honor of D-Day being today, I wanted to pick a military-themed model...but the only remotely military-themed horse I have is Sarge, so...here he is!

This little guy was the pop-up-store Stablemate at Breyerfest 2019. A total of 2,000 were made, and he's item #711353 on the Mini Alborozo mold sculpted by Brigitte Eberl. My photo doesn't do him justice - he's a beautiful color-shift purple and green!

This model was really popular - despite the large run size, I think they all sold out, but I don't remember for sure. We never did get a Breyerfest leftovers sale this year, so I think it's safe to say Breyer must have sold a ton of product! I suppose that's the main intention, anyway. And the Alborozo mold is very popular anyway, so it stands to reason these would sell out. Color-shift paint is always fun! There were also rumors that Breyer accidentally (or on purpose_ produced some unicorn versions of this guy, but I haven't heard anything since just after Breyerfest, so I don't know if that was just a rumor or not.

As for the mold...whew! He's had a ton of releases since the tiny mold's introduction last year (mirrored from the Traditional Alborozo); I guess Breyer must be trying to make up for lost time or something. He's going to be used in next year's Stablemates Club, too! Hopefully they don't make him the gambler's choice, or a lot of people (including me) might start tearing out their hair in frustration! Sheesh. I'm also hoping for a regular run version of this guy in a realistic color that ISN'T a grab bag, but I don't know how likely that is. The good news is, we won't have to wait much longer to find out!

Sultan is revealed!

Exciting news today - one of next year's 2020 Stablemates Club releases has been revealed! Say hello to Sultan!

We'd already seen his silhouette in that reveal a week or two ago, but it's good to see his color!

He's definitely a handsome boy - that coat of gloss certainly helps! He's nothing I need to buy, though - but with that color and those dapples, it shouldn't be too hard to sell him. Yum! I hope they show us the rest of the 2020 Stablemates Club models soon.

Wednesday, December 4, 2019

That's Bull

So I guess the animal web special is a yearly thing now? Say hello to Reuben:

Say what? Another animal web special, with a quantity of 350? I guess they didn't learn anything from Hawthorn's lackluster sales last year (he showed up in the Black Friday sale, just like I predicted)...Anyway, here's another photo of Reuben.

I like the Charolais Bull, but I hate the old-style red roan paint job, and I don't collect the nonhorse molds anyway, so this is a no-brainer. Good luck if you're entering for him, though!

Tuesday, December 3, 2019

Corbin is now available!

Attention, Stablemates Club members! The 2019 club is finally complete - Corbin is now available to order!

Mine will both be for sale, so I'm more excited to see what the raffle will be this year. They've really stepped things up in the last couple of years - I'm guessing glossy versions of some of the matte releases? Hopefully the raffle isn't an afterthought and they tell us in a reasonable amount of time!

Featured Model - 11/30/2019, Pokerjoe

Hello and welcome to another edition of Featured Model, the weekly blog event where I pick a model from my collection, give some stats on it and provide commentary about it. This week's model is...Pokerjoe!

This unique model is a portrait of the real Pokerjoe, the trick horse owned by Tommy Turvey. He's item #1359 and was a regular run on the Adios mold sculpted by Chris Hess.

I picked this model because I've always liked his white tail! So striking, especially on the real horse. But then, I've always had a bit of a soft spot for red bays with four white stockings, so the white tail just adds to the allure.

As for the mold, I wonder when we'll see him used again? He hasn't been a web special for 10 years, but he was used at last year's Breyerfest as the autograph model. His last regular run appearance, as Cherry Creek Fonzie Merit, wasn't terribly successful despite his goofy name - I have one, but the Tuesday Morning stores were full of them for $20 if I remember right. Sheesh, I can't even remember the last time I found a Breyer at a Tuesday Morning - not that I've been looking, since I hardly ever hear about them showing up there anymore.

Anyway, will we get a new Adios soon? I wouldn't be opposed to him getting another shot in the Vintage Club. Breyer seems to be stuck on using newer molds for the Collector Club special runs, but I guess we might see him there - doubtful, though. But maybe we'll get a new web special? I wouldn't be opposed to that, either. I wonder if they'll do a new theme this year? I suppose I'm getting rather America the Beautiful'd out - it's time to see what else they can come up with. Maybe a 70th Anniversary theme? New paint jobs on old molds? I wouldn't protest that at all, since I wouldn't have to buy most of them!

Mira and Antares are here! UNICORN OVERLOAD!

Unicorns...so many unicorns lately. But...more. I must have MORE! Like Mira and Antares! Now if they only had a stallion, to match them. Duende, perhaps? But would that lead to a unicorn short-circuit? There's only one way to find out...

I like that the mare is a little darker than the foal - sometimes Breyer's mare and foal sets match each other a little too well, when that's not always the case with real horses.

Their color is really interesting - at first glance it looks like a flat bronze, but then you notice the (very subtle, on my set) purple shimmer, and the shading and dapples, and the ombre effect on the foal's horn (not as noticeable on the mare). The mare's horn seems huge!

See what I mean? Their eyes are really nicely done, too, although the shape of the mare's eyes don't match each other. I guess you wouldn't notice it unless you were specifically looking for it, but still.

Quality-wise they're both pretty good - no horribly warped legs, which is what I was afraid of. The mare has some scrapes on her barrel under the paint, and a rough spot in the paint on her front right hoof, but other than that they look pretty good. Well, other than my inner nerd screaming that foals don't usually have dapples in real life and this one does, but then again bronze-colored unicorns don't exist in real life either, so these could be anything they want, and so on.

Either way, I really like the color on these two, and I hope they use it again on something else. Can you imagine it on the Othellocorn? Swoon!
