Featured JAH - 9/28/2024, May/June 2003

Hello and welcome to another edition of Featured JAH! This week's issue is May/June 2003, so let's get reading!

On the front cover, Flim Flam struts his stuff with Sue Blinks.

In the Editor's Desk, Natasha writes about deep things, and there's also a teaser for the Show Jumping Warmblood! To be revealed in the next issue.

On page 3 we have Letters to the Editor. I'm reasonably sure that the Design Spirit and Rain's Foal contest winner, Kylee Rollo, is now Kylee Parks, artist and sculptor of several models for Breyer, among other things.

On page 4 is the first page of the article about Sue Blinks and Flim Flam.

And on page 5 is the full article, including a (small) reveal of the Flim Flam Breyer model.

On page 6 is the first part of the article about War Admiral - successful sire and Triple Crown winner as well as possessing the Man o' War line's bad temper - but probably best known for losing the Pimlico Special match race against Seabiscuit.

On page 6 is the rest of the photo accompanying the War Admiral article.

Moving right along, on page 8 is the beginning of the article about Secretariat, in honor of the Secretariat Breyer model returning to the regular run line.

On page 9 is the rest of the Secretariat article.

After skipping a small news roundup and the front window display contest winners, on page 11 we have the results of the First Frost random draw (one of three artist proof models of Lanark's Rosebud were given away to random subscribers who ordered a First Frost model). I wonder whatever happened to these artist proofs? There was also a JAH cover photo contest.

On page 12 is the new Ask the Expert column, featuring Kim Jipson, Ken Duncan and Sommer Prosser.

After skipping Breyer jr., on page 17 is the reveal of the beautiful Winsome, the next entry in the Connoisseur series.

On page 18 is a 2003 Breyerfest preview, featuring the coveted Saturday Night Fever raffle model. Once upon a time I saw an entire set of the silver filigree Proud Arabians for sale at one of the vendor booths in the Covered Arena at Breyerfest. That was a momentous occasion! I don't remember exactly whose booth it was, but it may have been Walkabout Farm.

On page 19 is more Breyerfest previews, including the raffle model Gunsmoke! So pretty.

After skipping an article about model horse dressage tack, an how-to article, and most of Horse Trader, on page 25 we have an update on the adventures of the Castaway Cob.

On page 26 we find the first page of this week's Vintage Point article, this time featuring the Classic Man o' War. Although I don't collect this mold, I think it captures Man o' War's image better than the Traditional version. And that gray one is mighty handsome...

On page 27 is the rest of the Vintage Point article.

After skipping Collector's Corner and the Calendar of Events, on the back cover we see the reveal of several special run models for 2003. And that brings us to the end of this week's issue! Check back next week for July/Aug 2003!
