Featured JAH - 9/21/2024, Mar/Apr 2003

Hello and welcome to another edition of Featured Model! This week we're looking at the Mar/Apr 2003 issue, so let's get started, shall we?

On the front cover, the Life Guards of the Queen's (at the time) Household Cavalry, riding down a street somewhere.

In the Editor's Desk, Natasha talks about agreements between the USET and USAE Trust and previews content of this week's magazine. There's also a correction from last week's issue and an Avis discount for Collector Club members! Too bad we don't still get this.

On page 3 is a small news roundup and Letters to the Editor.

On page 4 is the first page of the article about Breyer portrait horse Zips Chocolate Chip.

On page 5 is the rest of the Zips Chocolate Chip article and the reveal of his Breyer model! I can't remember if I wanted this one or not.

After skipping articles about team penning and model horse photography, on page 10 is the first part of an article about the Queen's Household Cavalry.

On page 11 is the rest of the Household Cavalry article and the reveal of the Breyer Household Cavalry set. I wouldn't mind having this set if it had been issued on a mold I collect. Maybe they'll do a reissue now that the UK has a King? Idocus would look mighty handsome in that getup.

On page 12 are the winners of the Design Spirit & Rain's Foal contest. I never did dig out the illustrations I colored in but never sent, so I guess you don't get to see them. Oh well.

After skipping Breyer jr., on page 17 is the reveal of the beautiful Fortissimo! I believe we were right in the middle of the "using Silver for absolutely everything" era, so this release fit right into that. He certainly is pretty! Maybe someday I'll get my hands on one for something less than a king's ransom...

On page 18 is a Breyerfest 2003 preview, including another Silver, this time in old-style red roan. I do have this guy, despite my dislike for the color.

On page 19 is more Breyerfest preview stuff, including the porcelain Galway Warrior. I don't have any porcelain models anymore after the debacle with Adriano, but sometimes I think about buying the porcelain Othellos. It would be super cool to have a black-and-white Othello...but, the breakable factor...I just can't do it.

After skipping an article about model team penning, another article about showing Breyer foals, Horse Trader (holding steady at 1.3 pages) and a book review, on page 26 is the first page of this week's Vintage Point: the Running Mare! See all those vintage decorators together and weep.

On page 27 is the rest of the Vintage Point article.

After skipping Collector's Corner and the Calendar of Events, that brings us to the end of this week's issue! On the back cover is a closeup of the Queen's Household Cavalry set. Part of me wants to buy all of these older horse/rider/tack sets and display them in a glass cabinet...but that would be expensive. Nah...

Check back next week for May/June 2003!
