Prism is here (but we're not)!

As promised, here's my post about Prism! I almost forgot he'd arrived, and thus he sat outside my front door all afternoon. I guess that's what happens when you're trying to pack a million different things for the big trip. So, here he is!

I'd hoped to get this posted yesterday, but ultimately ran out of time. So I'm finishing it now as we drive through Missouri! I'm working from my iPad here, so if the formatting is messed up, that's probably why. But anyway... I just had to include a picture of Prism's box here, because I love it so much. It fits perfectly with his decorator theme and it's definitely a departure from the usual yellow box. Love it!

So this is Prism out of his box. I LOVE HIM. He doesn't have quite as much detail as his auction model predecessors, but I was expecting that. I love his rainbow colors and the way they all blend into each other so nicely.

I love the shade of purple they used, and I especially love how it blends into the blue and the white. Definitely one of my favorite releases of the last couple of years! I'm so glad mine came in before Breyerfest.

Quality-wise, I didn't see a thing wrong with him. He's gorgeous in every way and has a nice, thick coat of gloss to boot! I really hope we see this color on another release someday - I'd definitely buy this color again!

That's all I've got for now. We'll arrive at the Clarion early tomorrow evening, but I'm hoping to sneak through the KHP visitor center and get photos of those elusive auction models. In any case, I'll definitely get photos of the Artisan's Gallery lineup, so stay tuned!

Xavier throw blanket has arrived!

Way back in the dark days of pre-Christmas collector appreciation sales, you may remember that Breyer offered a gift of a free glossy model if you spent $125 or more on the website. This is, of course, an excellent way to clear the warehouse of leftover stock, but apparently it's also a way to low-key debut new products. Two of these new products were plush throw blankets - one with the promo photo of Desatado on it, and the other with a picture of Xavier, the unicorn.

Although the throw blanket was a bit spendy at $40, when buying things from the website I generally prefer to get things I actually want, so I pulled the trigger. Unfortunately, the blankets went into backorder status almost immediately and mine didn't arrive with the rest of my order. Last week I sent Breyer an email wondering where these mythical blankets were, and I was assured they would be shipped out this week! So, fast-forward to today and a surprisingly heavy box arrived at my door! Behold the awesomeness:

It's like Breyer knew I have a weakness for throw blankets and unicorns. I think I see a rainbow behind Xavier as well, and you all know (or should know) my thoughts about rainbow anything by now. So this throw is getting happily added to my blanket pile! Definitely worth the purchase.

Oodles of mules!

Not that it matters now, since memberships are now closed (Happy New Year!), but the mule release in this year's Stablemate Club was revealed on Saturday! Well - make that mules, as it's the gambler's choice, Finn! Here they are:

The G2 mule never really appealed to me much; although I technically collected it, the only two I ever had in my collection were the original 1998 JAH release and the appaloosa from a JC Penney set - and I sold both of those at Breyerfest last year. I do like these colors, though - as others have observed, they appear to be mini-me versions of Lucy, Oliver, Brown Sunshine and this test model.

So, whichever mule I get from my sole membership this year will most likely be for sale - unless I get the rainbow one. My weakness for rainbow anything is well-documented, and I can't guarantee I'd sell that one...right away. We'll just have to see what happens!

Featured Model - 2/11/2017, Rainbow Weather Girl

Hello, readers, and welcome to another thrilling edition of Featured Model! Featured Model is the weekly blog event where I pick a model from my collection, give some stats on it and provide commentary about it. This week's victim is... Rainbow!

This pretty girl is item #1465, issued in 2011 on the popular Weather Girl mold sculpted by Brigitte Eberl. She was one of three possible redemption models one could receive from that year's Treasure Hunt. As usual, Breyer never released how many of these were made, but I think she was the rarest of the three (the other two were the matte and glossy sorrel? red dun? chestnut? pintaloosa "Rainbow").

I love this model. No ifs, ands or buts. I have a weakness for rainbow things and this model is no exception. A pretty Arabian-looking model, in a pretty pose, in a color that screams, "BUY ME BUY ME NOW!"? Sold. Unfortunately, I had to wait a while before her price came down to a range I wanted to pay, but she was worth the wait. She's not the first translucent model I've ever owned, but she's definitely the prettiest.

The Weather Girl mold's first release came in 2011 through the Treasure Hunt (which was evidently the last Treasure Hunt for the foreseeable future). She was issued in five colors through the Treasure Hunt and was also a Breyerfest special run that year. In addition, glossy versions of the three TH colors were prizes at the Breyerwest live show that year, and she also showed up at the Sunshine Celebration collector's event as the coveted Winter Haven. Still kicking myself for not attending that, as I was drawn for a ticket but couldn't afford it at the time.

Then, at the end of the year, Weather Girl was used as the silver filigree special run, Mont Tremblant. So she definitely got plenty of use that year, because she spent five years in the "Breyer Vault" after that, and only came out again last year. I'm still baffled that they didn't issue the Swirling Sky Connoisseur model on Weather Girl instead of reusing the Moody Andalusian, though. It's not like they didn't have any translucent Weather Girl bodies available.

Aside from the various auction models, Weather Girl has only shown up once since coming out of the vault - as the current regular run release, Rhapsody in Black. I'd thought Breyer would want to celebrate that a little more and use her for a few more things, but that didn't happen last year. Maybe I'm wrong about my Breyerfest predictions and she'll show up there? Or possibly as a web special for America the Beautiful? Still hoping for a glossy alabaster. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I have all but the rarest of her releases, but the collection could always use a few more. I'll be crossing my fingers!
