Hello and welcome to another edition of Featured JAH! This week's issue is Winter 2011. For 2011, JAH went back to the old 4-issues-per-year format before ceasing publication (other than the yearly issue for Collector Club members). At this point, the end of JAH hadn't been announced yet, but I can't remember if we suspected something was going on with the year's first issue being called Winter rather than Jan/Feb. So anyway, let's get started!
On the front cover, Hip Hop, one of the customized models for the WEG diorama project, takes a water jump.
In the Editor's Desk, the still-unnamed editor (it must be Stephanie, but I don't know why it isn't attributed to anyone), announces the addition of a Shopping Cart to the Breyer website and the advent of Breyer selling models directly through the website. They didn't do that before 2011? I remember them selling old special runs through the website in 2010 after my return to the hobby, but now that I think about it I don't remember if the full product line was available at that time. Huh.
Letters to the Editor appears on page 3, along with someone asking the age-old question: where did the Breyer name come from? I guess it'll always be a mystery.
On page 4 we have the first part of the article about Kripton-Seni II.
The Kripton-Seni II article wraps up on page 5. The real Kripton-Seni II has his own Facebook page and was still alive as of January 2024, but the page hasn't been updated since then.
On page 6 we have the first page of the extremely-long article about the creation of the WEG dioramas.
The diorama article continues on page 7.
More diorama article on page 8.
The diorama article continues to continue on page 9.
More diorama article on page 10.
Even more diorama article on page 11.
The diorama article is still going on page 12!
The diorama article finally concludes on page 13.
After skipping Mailbag, on page 14 we have the handsome Collector's Choice model, Gathering Storm. I had him at one point, before I sold off my Big Bens. I wish the Collector's Choice model would come back - I bet collectors could come up with some really cool designs on the new molds we've had since 2011.
After skipping "What Makes a Model Horse Show Champion," on page 17 we have Kandinsky, the latest Connoisseur model! For 2011, Breyer introduced a "Great Artists Series" for the Connoisseur program's 10th anniversary. I don't think Kandinsky was particularly popular, which (amongst other unpopular releases) may have contributed to the end of the Connoisseur program.
After skipping three how-to articles, on page 24 we have Vintage Point, this week covering the Moody ASB!
Vintage Point continues on page 25.
Vintage Point concludes on page 26.
After skipping the Calendar of Events, On the Trail with Breyer and an ad for Wind Dancers, on the back cover of the magazine we have Chub and Buck from Bonanza! Fun stuff. And that brings us to the end of this week's issue! Check back next week for Spring 2011!
