Tobias is here!

Good news, everyone! My Tobias model has arrived - behold!

The promo photos made him look glossy, so I'm a tad disappointed that he isn't, but he's a really nice design otherwise.

I feel like this paint job has flown under a lot of people's radar. All those teensy spots! The paint jobs on these models just keep getting better and better.

Though, for all his detail, I wish he had eyewhites! But that's a minor complaint. I've seen some nasty quality issues with these guys, but other than being thin through the shoulders and some blurred masking, mine is pretty good. Definitely a flashy addition to my G2 Appaloosa collection!

Tobias is now available!

Attention, readers! I've surfaced from the swamps of No-Breyer-News - gasp - to inform you of this important development! Tobias, the next release in the 2021 Stablemates Club, is now available for purchase!

Sorry if that opening sentence was a little dramatic. But I feel like this has been the most unmemorable lead-up to Breyerfest in years. Do we get an auction model countdown this year? Who knows! Are we ever going to see this year's raffle models? Is there even going to be a Saturday/Sunday raffle? Could be anyone's guess at this point! When is the program coming out? Should be any day now, but they didn't release it until the week before the event last year, so we'll probably still be waiting a while! Ugh! I hate to be a whiner here, but...I just want some news I can post about...

But, at least we can order our Tobias models now. Though I'm personally going to wait until the deadline to order him, because theoretically we're getting Fireheart this month, right? Is that still a thing? Let's hope so...

Winter Sweepstakes and Tobias!

Exciting news, readers! Better late than never, right? Well, anyway...Breyer is having a little sweepstakes to celebrate the start of winter! They're giving away some Festive Filigree leftovers to 10 lucky winners.

Only one model per winner (I think). Get your entries in here! We only have to enter once, which is nice. I still haven't managed to trade my red SCO for the silver Brishen, so I'm entering in hopes I win one. Good luck to everyone who enters!

Our other piece of exciting news is the reveal of Tobias, the 2021 Stablemates Club release that was teased a few days ago:

That color certainly is striking on him! He looks glossy, but I don't think he really is. Maybe he'll be the matte/glossy release? Which reminds me...they advertised a matte/glossy release for this year, but I don't think we got one, did we? That's kinda odd - maybe they forgot about it. Oh well.

Entries for the 2021 SMC (and the Premier Club) end on 12/31, so don't forget to join. I'm holding out on signing up because I want to see even more, darn it! I want to know who the gambler's choice is!

Check back later for more exciting Breyer news!

Featured Model - 5/13/2017, Mini Mustang Lady

Hello and welcome to Featured Model, the weekly blog event where I pick a model from my collection, give some stats on it and provide commentary about it. This week's model is... Mini Mustang Lady!

This model is a portrait of the real Mustang Lady, the Breyerfest Celebration Horse from 1991. Item #711080, this model was issued on the G2 Appaloosa mold sculpted by Kathleen Moody. It was one of the models in the 20th Anniversary Commemorative Set, a run of 500 issued at Breyerfest 2009.
I love the little details on this model. The race number and freeze brand add a lot to what would otherwise be a nondescript gray paint job (although I don't think the freeze brand is positioned quite right). This mold was used for two other models in the 20th Anniversary Set (Bright Zip and Rugged Painted Lark), and they're both nicely detailed as well - as is the rest of the set. It makes me wish Breyer would have made a five-piece followup set for Breyerfest 2014 to depict subsequent Celebration Horses. Oh well; maybe they'll do it for Breyerfest 2019 for the 30th anniversary. I can dream, right?

The mold itself has plenty of personality as well; I like his prancy stance and swishy tail. Whatever he wants, he wants it NOW. He's been used quite a bit over the last 19 years - regular runs, Breyerfest, JC Penney, JAH and more. I may sound like a broken record at this point, but I'm hoping he shows up in this year's Stablemate Club. Especially since we now know he probably won't show up at Breyerfest! Fortunately, we don't have that long now until the next release is revealed. I'm looking forward to it!
