Featured JAH - 7/27/2024, Nov/Dec 2001

Hello and welcome to another edition of Featured JAH! We're finishing up another year with Nov/Dec 2001 - let's get started!

On the front cover, a horse looks out a snowy barn door. Cute! On the back cover, the resin Chesterfield makes his debut. Legend has it that this was the original Lonesome Glory sculpt, but Breyer wasn't fully happy with it so Kitty did another sculpt, which became the Lonesome Glory we know and love.

In the Editor's Column, Stephanie assures us that no one at the Breyer office was injured in the 9/11 attacks, and announces the first Breyer collector event, the 2002 Breyer Premier. There's also a Who Am I? that serves as a teaser for the upcoming Spirit movie and Breyer tie-in products. On page 3 is a news roundup.

After skipping an article about Lipizzaners, on page 6 is an In Memoriam for two well-known figures in the horse industry, and on page 7 is Letters to the Editor.

After skipping the 2001 Breyer Retired List, on page 10-11 we have an article about the Cisco Kid and portrait model Diablo.

After skipping the 2001 Breyer Tour events list, on page 14-15 is an article about Rocky Mountain Horses featuring the Rocky Mountain Horse resin that was only available through JC Penney.

On page 16 we have an Artist's Eye article by Tom Bainbridge, and on page 17 is the information about the 2002 Breyer Premiere.

On page 18-19 we come to an article about Norikers, probably inspired by the porcelain Noriker on the Othello mold.

This week's centerfold features...this...reveal...which I thought was pretty silly back in 2001, not being a huge fan of plushies and all. But the plushes have endured in one form or another ever since then, so clearly someone's a fan!

On page 22-23 we have an article about decorating with model horses.

On page 24 is the conclusion to the decorating with model horses article, and the conclusion to the Cisco Kid article. On page 25 we have a Collector's Corner featuring Alexandra Fitzgerald - I wonder if she's still in the hobby?

After skipping a Breyer scrapbook and Horse Trader (the last page of Horse Trader cropped out), on page 33 is the rest of the Rocky Mountain Horse article.

After skipping Breyer jr., on page 36 we have a book review of Blackjack by Ellen Feld (with cover art by Jeanne Mellin Herrick), and on page 37 is the first part of this week's Vintage Point article, featuring the Classic Keen mold.

On page 38-39 we have the rest of the Vintage Point article.

Oddly, the Vintage Point article wasn't the very end of this week's issue - the reveal of Naughty and Nice was instead! I've been racking my brain to try to remember if I bought (or tried to buy) this release when it first came out, and which one I got if so. I don't think I had the money at the time, though I did get both of the colors later on (and then sold them even later on). The Fjord is nice, but I needed the shelf space, a tale as old as time.

That brings us to the end of this week's issue - check back next week for Jan/Feb 2002! Getting started on another year.
