Featured JAH - 1/4/2025, Sept/Oct 2005

Hello and welcome to another edition of Featured JAH! It's our first Featured Model of 2025 - huzzah! This week's issue is Sept/Oct 2005. We're rapidly closing in on the end of 2005 with this issue, so let's get going!

On the front cover, Dakota Fanning poses with a horse in a publicity photo for the movie Dreamer. Spoiler alert: I still haven't seen this movie. I tend to avoid horse movies due to excessive sentimentality, but it's been almost 20 years, so maybe I could squeeze it into my busy schedule, somewhere between episodes of Rockford Files and playing Veilguard.

In the Editor's Desk, Natasha talks about Breyerfest and her own origins in the world of horses.

On page 3 we have Letters to the Editor.

On page 4 is the first page of our feature article for this week. Feast your eyes on everything Dreamer!

The Dreamer article continues on page 5. According to this, Dakota Fanning and her sister Elle (star of The Great, amongst other things) were both avid Breyer collectors in 2005. I wonder if they still collect?

On page 6 we have the first page of the Breyerfest 2005 wrap-up!

The Breyerfest wrap-up continues on page 7.

The Breyerfest wrap-up concludes on page 8.

After skipping the Breyerfest 2005 live show results, on page 11 we have an article about Breyer portrait horse Milton. Milton is/was famous enough to have his own Wikipedia page!

On page 12 is an article about Smart Chic Olena.

After skipping Breyer jr., on page 17 is the reveal of two more 2005 releases. Snowman would later get another portrait on Idocus!

On page 18 is the insanely popular JAH 30th Anniversary Saddlebred set! This release was publicized as being limited to 2,000 pieces (500 of each color), but it was so popular that Breyer ended up making 250 extra of each color.

The Dreamer article concludes on page 19.

After skipping an article about china model horses and a how-to article, along with Horse Trader (down to 1 page), on page 25 is the rest of the article about Smart Chic Olena, including his model reveal! This is the debut of the SCO mold, so it's a little odd that they'd consign it to the second part of an article in the back of the magazine, but I guess I don't make the rules. Oh well.

On page 26 is this week's Vintage Point article, featuring the Classics Ginger mold, which was retired a few years after this article was published. According to Sommer Prosser, Harper is intended as a spiritual successor to Ginger.

The Vintage Point article concludes on page 27.

After skipping On the Trail with Breyer and the Calendar of Events, on the back cover of the magazine we find the merch lineup for Dreamer. I don't think I ever did get that Stablemates Race Set. My G2 Thoroughbred collection is pretty big, though - I live in fear of knocking them over yet again whenever I add a new one to the lineup. Maybe I don't need any more of them!

And that brings us to the end of this week's issue. Check back next week for Nov/Dec 2005!
