Featured JAH - 1/11/2025, Nov/Dec 2005

Hello and welcome to another edition of Featured JAH! We're wrapping up 2005 with this issue, so let's get started!

On the front cover, we see the winning entry in the annual JAH cover art contest, submitted by Sara Gifford, who I think is still in the hobby.

In the Editor's Desk, Natasha writes about Dreamer and other inspiring things. There's also a photo of volunteers from Breyerfest 2005 whose credit line was left out of the previous issue. Oops, it looks like there's a typo in one of those volunteers' names.

On page 3 we have Letters to the Editor.

On page 4 is the first page of the article about Breyer portrait horse Templado - well, a photo of him. It's a nice photo, to be fair.

The rest of the Templado article appears on page 5, along with his portrait model. Templado has sadly passed on, but I couldn't find an exact date of death for him, except that he had died by 2014, the year this book was published.

On page 6 we have an article about the Argentine Criollo breed and the reveal of Salpicado, the 2005 Limited Edition on the Ranch Horse.

The breed showcases continue on page 7 with an article about Black Hand, one of the founding sires of the Pony of the Americas breed, and his portrait model on the Galiceno mold.

After skipping an article about pedigree assignment, the 2005 Retired List and a "hobby perspective," on page 12 we have the reveal of the handsome Connoisseur Ivy League!

I usually skip Breyer jr., but I saw one or two familiar names on this page and had to scan it.

On page 17 we have the runners-up and honorable mentions of the cover contest.

After skipping Collector's Corner, a horse color profile, two how-to articles and most of Horse Trader (back to 1.25 pages), on page 25 we have an article about the coveted Merlin raffle model! These guys' value has skyrocketed over the years - buying one now would probably set you back around $20,000, if not more. So if you have one, hold on to it! Or cash in - I guess that's up to you.

On page 26 is the first page of this week's Vintage Point, featuring the G1 Morgan Mare!

The Vintage Point article wraps up on page 27.

After skipping a listing of Breyer Fun Days and the calendar of events, we've reached the end of this week's issue! On the back cover is Breyer's 2005 Holiday Collection! Notably, the beautiful Della Robbia was part of this collection. I finally managed to buy one in 2022 (I think) and while he looks bay, he has a beautiful blue interference in his paint job. Makes me wonder what a glossy one would look like.

Anyway, that's it for this week! Check back next week for the start of a new year with Jan/Feb 2006!
