Featured JAH - 5/17/2025, Nov/Dec 2008

Hello and welcome to another edition of Featured JAH! We're wrapping up 2008 with this week's issue, so let's get going!

On the front cover, 2008 Holiday Horse Noelle frolics in snow.

In the Editor's Desk, Arlene previews the magazine as usual and wishes readers a happy New Year. The new Classics Best in Show Stock Horse also debuts in a pretty gray finish. Later on we'll see the horrifying debut of the entire Best in Show line.

On page 3 we have Letters to the Editor as usual.

After skipping an ad for Wind Dancers, on page 6 we have the first page of the article about Thee Desperado.

On page 7 is the rest of the Thee Desperado article and the reveal of his Breyer model.

On page 8 we have some photos of 2008 NAN winners.

The NAN winners continue on page 9.

On page 10 we have some interviews with the stars of the Saddle Club TV show.

After skipping what was basically an ad for more Saddle Club stuff, on page 12 the beautiful Golden Boy makes his debut! Makes me a little sad about selling mine. Only a little, though.

After skipping Artist's Sketch, Mailbag, Model Horse Show, another "Join the Collector's Club" ad, Winners' Circle, the holiday art contest winners and a how-to article (wow, that was kind of a lot), on page 22 we have an update on Breyer Canada!

On page 23 we have the debut of the Best in Show Classics line, which was...wasn't received all that well due to various factors including mohair, inherent flaws with the mohair, the creepy expressions in the horses's glass eyes (maybe a little too expressive?), and probably other things I'm forgetting. It's a nice idea, but I can't imagine the mohair stood up to being played with very well? Maybe I'm wrong. I do have the Arabian in my own collection and took him to a show back in March - I can't imagine trying to take care of the mohair on multiple models at a show. What a chore!

On page 24 we have the first page of this week's Vintage Point, featuring the Clydesdale Stallion!

Vintage Point concludes on page 25. I was never a fan of this mold, but I did briefly own the glossy bay #1202 at one point and he was very handsome.

On page 26 we have an update on Breyer UK.

After skipping the Calendar of Events, Puzzle Contest Winner and On the Trail with Breyer, on the inside of the back cover we have the Big Chex to Cash model reveal! In an era where most Traditional regular runs only stay in production for a couple of years, Big Chex to Cash's model wasn't retired until 2017, so he must have been pretty popular.

On the back cover of the magazine we have an ad for Breyer's holiday stuff for 2008, and that brings us to the end of this week's issue! Check back next week as we start off a new year with Jan/Feb 2009!
