Featured JAH - 3/8/2025, Mar/Apr 2007

Hello and welcome to another edition of Featured JAH! We're covering the March/Apr 2007 issue, which is fitting for what month we're in, so let's get started!

On the front cover, a group of Nokota horses do their best to look pretty. I must not have had the gumption to remove the address label from this one, considering the damage it did to all my other issues.

In the Editor's Desk, Arlene sadly writes about Barbaro's death (he was put down on January 29, 2007), as well as previewing the magazine.

As usual, Letters to the Editor is on page 3.

On page 4 we have the announcement of the 2007 Picture Perfect contest!

I don't imagine those disposable cameras were all that great for taking model photos, but I could be wrong. I suppose it was probably a good way to get kids into photography, if nothing else.

The photo contest article concludes on page 6.

On page 7 is the reveal of Windtalker, the spring Collector's Choice model.

On page 8 is the first page of the article about Cefnoakpark Bouncer.

The Bouncer article concludes on page 9, along with a reveal of the new Bouncer model. Another super-popular Kathleen Moody sculpt! I wasn't able to find a date of death for Bouncer - he was foaled in 1996, which would have him turning 29 this year, so he might still be around.

The Nokota article starts on page 10. I had forgotten that Bouncer and the Nokota both debuted in the same year.

The Nokota article continues on page 11.

On page 12 is the sought-after Connoisseur Scallywag! This was the first time the Ruffian mold appeared as a gelding. I'm a little sad that I sold mine, but that's just how it goes, I guess.

After skipping a JAH model horse show, Pet Corner, Winner's Circle and the model horse show results, on page 17 we have an ad for BreyerWest and the reveal of the special run model Polaris!

On page 18 we have more winners of the Paint Your Dream Horse contest winners, with more familiar names!

There's a Breyerfest preview on page 19, featuring the early bird raffle and the now-sought-after special runs Heartland and Sundance.

After skipping a how-to article, we find the first page of a Pony Express article on page 22.

The Pony Express article concludes on page 23.

After skipping Horse Trader (3/4 of a page now) and a contest to spot the hidden Nokotas, on page 25 is another Breyer UK article.

This week's Vintage Point starts on page 26, featuring the G2 Clydesdale! Kind of funny that it had already had so many releases since 1998, and has been used approximately a billion times since then. It'd probably take a whole page of the magazine just to list all the different releases! Maybe give the poor guy a rest for a while?

The Vintage Point article concludes on page 27.

After skipping On the Trail with Breyer and the Calendar of Events, on the back cover is the western Let's Go Riding set, featuring the Ranch Horse! And that brings us to the end of this week's issue. Check back next week for May/June 2007!

St. Patrick’s Day plush!

Well, there hasn’t been much of anything new to post about lately…but at least there’s a new plush for St. Patrick’s Day!

If her mane and tail were redder I’d wonder if her name is a Shrek reference, but maybe I’m reaching a little too much. She is cute, though! Find her here

Hopefully I’ll have something to write about next week! I was informed today that my Ophelia and the Brilliance Stablemate set have shipped, so at least I’ll be able to write about those.

Featured JAH - 3/1/25, Jan/Feb 2007

Hello and welcome to another edition of Featured JAH! We're starting a new year this week with Jan/Feb 2007, so let's get going!

On the cover is the handsome Salinero with Anky van Grunsven.

In the Editor's Desk, Arlene previews the magazine and mentions how it had been given a slight redesign to give it "more of an ageless look." Jury's still out on whether it's ageless or not.

On page 3 is Letters to the Editor.

On page 4 we have the first part of an article about the Portland Horse Project.

The Portland Horse Project article wraps up on page 5. The Portland Horse Project appears to still be going strong and celebrates 20 years this year! Huh.

On page 6 we have An Insider's Guide to Breyerfest!

The Insider's Guide to Breyerfest wraps up on page 7.

After skipping a Breyer ad for Snoozy Horses (must not have been big sellers), on page 9 we have more winners of the Paint Your Dream Horse contest, featuring more recognizable names! Anyone you know?

On page 10 is the first page of the Salinero article, along with the reveal of his Breyer model!

The Salinero article ends on page 11.

On page 12 is the debut of the beautiful Cassiopeia, the latest Connoisseur model. Look at those dapples! Too bad we don't seem to see models painted like this nowadays, unless they're auction models. Come to think of it, now that the web specials seem to be produced in runs of 500 or more, maybe it's time for the Connoisseur series to make a comeback? I believe that's what Ambrose and Midas were more-or-less intended to be, anyways.

After skipping the kids' section of the magazine (very brief compared to previous issues; maybe that's the "ageless look" Arlene was referring to), on page 19 we have some model horse show results featuring people that are still in the hobby today!

After skipping two how-to articles and Horse Trader, on page 25 we have this question of who would be the next UK model horse. As far as I know, none of the horses topping the poll got Breyer models, and I don't know who ended up being chosen, if anyone.

On page 26 is the first page of this week's Vintage Point article, this week featuring Rugged Lark!

Vintage Point wraps up on page 27. That's...kind of a sad lineup for a mold that debuted in 1989, but Rugged Lark has never been all that popular, so I get it.

After skipping On the Trail with Breyer and the Calendar of Events, on the back page of the magazine we have the Deluxe Wood Barn! And that brings us to the end of this week's issue. Check back next week for Mar/Apr 2007!

February Collector Club newsletter!

Well, it’s the last day of February, and the Collector Club newsletter is here! If you’re a Club member, check your email to read it. There’s a 75th Anniversary article about concept art, a feature article about Breyerwest special runs, a giveaway of a glossy Chardonnay, and this sneak peek!

Well, it has dapples, and it’s probably a buckskin, but other than that, who knows what it is. Probably the next web special - maybe somewhere with sandy beaches, given the color? Hope we don’t have to wait too long to find out!

Maddox, Mercutio and 2025 releases!

Greetings, readers! After a long dry spell (probably for the best), I finally have some new arrivals! Behold, Maddox!

What a beauty!

Gray is my favorite horse color, so I'm probably biased. But I love him!

Quality-wise, he's pretty nice - I didn't notice any major flaws other than his annoyingly-uniformly-arranged dapples. I'm thinking about putting him in a show to see how he does - although everyone else will probably do the same thing, so it may not be worth it.

I think I would have liked him even more if they'd added a bit of silver/metallic to his coat, but he's still pretty.

Next, here's Mercutio, who arrived at the same time as Maddox!

He's a cutie, although I'm still not crazy about the flipped tail.

I'll have to think about a breed to assign him, because I didn't see any major flaws with him either.

And I'm super glad that the first SMC release of the year is something I want to keep! Usually it's a G1, so I end up having to sell it.

And lastly, the KHP finally got some of the 2025 new releases in! Behold:

I would have posted these sooner, but I ordered the horse trailer set from Amazon and the first one that arrived contained a white unicorn with a broken horn, so I had to get it replaced. So if you want that set, buy one in person or you may end up with broken models.

It took some doing, but I looked through several of the Spanish Horses and managed to find one with mostly-good decals. I like the design, though I wonder what he'd look like in gloss. They glossed some (all?) of the 70th Anniversary models, so maybe this guy will get the same treatment? I hope so. I also looked through a bunch of the Surfer's Riptide models to try to find one with a decently masked mane, and thought I got one - until I got him out of the box and saw the awful masking on his off side. Oh well. I'm thinking about taking the mini Fjord to BreyerMidwest with me next month, since I'm going to mostly bring Stablemates to that. Decisions, decisions...

That's all I have for today! Let's hope Breyer reveals more fun stuff soon. In the meantime, I have model horse shows to prepare for!

Featured JAH - 2/22/2025, Nov/Dec 2006

Hello and welcome to another edition of Featured JAH! We're wrapping up 2006 this week with Nov/Dec 2006, so let's get going!

On the front cover, we have a couple of cute customized Stablemates in a "wintry scene by Jennifer Danza."

In the Editor's Desk, Arlene previews the magazine (as usual).

On page 3 we have Letter to the Editor.

After skipping a how-to article, on page 6 we have a promo for a Breyer Stablemates book, and also the Paint Your Dream Horse photo contest winners, featuring a lot of recognizable names!

On page 7 is the debut of the 2007 Treasure Hunt! Feast your eyes on these pretty Silvers. Silver was still very popular in 2006 and was in the middle of his being-used-everywhere thing, so it's no surprise that he was used for the Treasure Hunt. I still feel like he'll probably be used as the Breyerfest surprise eventually, despite having been used in the Treasure Hunt...could this be his year? Hmm. Also, shoutout to my poor Silver Pegasus who has an unfortunate seam split on his belly.

On page 8 we have the first page of an article about Akhal-Tekes, and the debut of the Breyer Akhal-Teke on Lonesome Glory!

The Teke article wraps up on page 9.

After skipping the holiday art contest results (sorry), on page 12 is the popular Connoisseur Jazz Fusion! I feel like something went wrong with the design for this page, because the photo doesn't look quite right. Maybe it's just me.

After skipping Breyer jr., on page 17 we have an article about Breyer's participation in the Ponies UK Summer Show.

We've skipped Collector's Corner again, and on page 19 we find an article about the Castle Toys Breyer Model West show in Canada.

After skipping two more how-to articles, Horse Trader and the 2007 Retired List, on page 26 is the first page of this week's Vintage Point article, featuring the G1 Arabian Mare!

Vintage Point concludes on page 27.

On page 28 we have On the Trail with Breyer, featuring more highlights from model horse shows and a listing of Breyer Fun Days from 2006.

After skipping the Calendar of Events, on the back cover we have the beautiful Snow Princess, the 2006 Holiday Horse! I never did own a Snow Princess before I sold off my Rejoices, but I did always like the blue interference on her gray color. Celestine is very similar, and I do have her!

That brings us to the end of this week's issue, and 2006! Check back next week for Jan/Feb 2007!
